...so, this is disappointing and doesn't instill a lot of confidence. Only 85 miles on the new bike, and the check engine light came on just now while I was puttering around town. Came home and parked it. Verified that the light stays on after a couple of restarts.

Of course it's Saturday evening, so the dealer is closed until Monday.

Do I now have a yard ornament until I can get trailer it back over to the dealership on Monday?

Went out to move the bike into my "safe area" for the night, and it wouldn't even crank over, and is showing the red battery light on the gauge. That to me says wonky connection, yeah?

LOL I do have full coverage. Turns out I'm an idiot regarding the not cranking over issue. With my bulky winter gloves, I bumped the giant red kill switch rocker and didn't notice it. face palm

What about the check engine light ?

That's still on, taking it back to the dealer tomorrow to have them check it out. He said it could just be a phantom code or something simple.

Down the road, I'll get comfy reading the codes myself and resetting after fixing issues, but for now I'll let the dealer get it fixed quick so I can keep riding.

The check engine light (MIL, or whatever they call it) went off and stayed off today, too.

Once I thought about it, the last time I started it over at the store, I didn't hold the starter on long enough and it coughed, but then fired over and the light came on. The dealer said that's a common reason for the light to come on, something didn't get enough power for a second and threw a code.

Rather than hack a piece of wire onto the frame and try and diagnose the long/short light blipping, I'll just run it up to the dealership and have them put it on the computer to pull up the historical codes to verify that it's something silly like the headlight cutting out for a millisecond or something.

One of the upsides to living only 18 miles away from one of the biggest RE dealerships in the country! Royal Enfield of Fort Worth is a much bigger deal that I knew when I decided to buy the bike there last week. Great customer service and support.

I puttered around town today with no lights and no problems today. Have my first 100 miles on the bike now!

I've noticed that the ABS light stays on after starting, but goes away after I roll a few feet. Is that a thing?
